Food Safety Program Manager - Retail, Training & Controlled Substances - August 2022 - October 2024

  • Maintained comprehensive knowledge on current and proposed changes of laws, rules, and policies and ensured correct interpretation and consistent enforcement at food establishments in Oregon.

  • Developed rules, policies, and procedures to address emerging trends including but not limited to reusable containers, psilocybin, and domestic kitchens.  Developed and delivered legislative testimony for bills affecting the Department.

  • Served as the facilitator for the development of the Agency’s 3 year strategic plan. Advised the agency on goal setting and deployment of the strategic plan.

  • Technical manager for retail, controlled substances, and training program. 

  • Represented the agency at state, federal, and national associations. Collaborated and formed relationships with other government agencies including local, county, state and FDA.

  • Provides feedback and recommendations on the hygienic design of robot prototypes and collaborates with Engineering on needed modifications to meet client needs. 

  • Serves as on-call food safety technical expert to guide the organization in food safety related matters. Teaches the Chef Team about food safety principles and risks throughout the food industry.

  • Analyzed internal and customer feedback, communicated with leadership, category management, purchasing, and producers to continuously improve the quality of products and order accuracy. 

  • Assessed suitability of potential growers and suppliers from a food safety perspective.  Advised the business on food safety related risks associated with assortment expansion. Updated and maintained food safety plans.

  • Provided leadership to a team of 2 direct and 25 indirect reports across Oakland and Los Angeles facilities. Managed variable cost and op ex budget for Quality Department.

Corporate Food Safety Manager - March 2020 - November 2021

  • Assessed suitability of new products, technologies/equipment, potential co manufacturers and third party warehouses from a food safety perspective.

  • Analyzed data to provide guidance to the business on organizational trends in foreign material, holds, consumer complaints and other indicators of performance. 

  • Served as food safety technical expert and auditor for Amy’s Drive Thru restaurants, formed strong relationships with restaurant staff

  • Provided support to the manufacturing functions and QFS managers at the plants as needed – audit support and coverage during absences. Created the food safety plan for the newest Amy’s plant in San Jose.

  • Maintained Food Safety Plan of two manufacturing facilities. SQF Practitioner for both sites, participated in all food safety and regulatory audits (gluten free, DoD, Kosher, Organic) and inspections. SQF audit scores: 2018 – 97, 2019 – 98, 2020 – 98. 

  • Supported the management of pre-requisite programs: cleaning validation, environmental monitoring, new product development. Implemented GMP audit & result trending program. Leader of the Food Safety Team.

  • Prepared and transitioned company into FSMA compliance and SQF certification . Trained all supervisors, shift leads and team leads during FSMA transition in English and Spanish.
